President Brian Kunkel called the gathering to order and invited Gene Ragsdale to offer the Invocation. Richard Saunders directed our singing of The National Anthem followed by The Pledge of Allegiance.

l Forest/ Cave Creek District Ranger Colleen Madrid for an educational presentation on the responsibilities and projects of the US Forest Service in our area.
A wildlife biologist who formerly served in the Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon, Ms. Madrid began with a brief US Forest quiz (founded in 1905; under the Dep’t of
Agriculture; divided into nine regions nationwide including AZ/ NM); its work spurred on in the early 20th century by a series of devastating fires from Harlem to the Northern Rockies.
The agency’s current responsibilities include fire suppression, development and mapping of approved ATV trails, improving the Rio Verde recreation area, delineating cattle grazing allotments, replanting hundreds of saguaros throughout the burned Cave Creek Complex fire area, and finding new ways to encourage young people to consider a career in natural resource conservation.
