October 22, 2008 Lunch

With high temperatures finally cooling into the 80 degree range, Kiwanians gathered at Harold’s and were greeted by Herb Engdahl and Don Basta, who both also did double duty with the house setup chores. Others efficiently preparing our meeting room today were Bob Leininger, Dave Fisher and Manny Gonzales. President Elect Susan Vanik conducted the meeting, with Ray Arnold giving a thoughtful invocation, and Richard Saunders and Lloyd Meyer taking care of the musical duties.

Jayne Hubbard was one of the lucky winners of the raffle and she will team as greeter next week with the other one, Gale Totten.

PROGRAM
Our speaker, Michael Zimmerman, is the CFO of the local company Go Daddy.com. He explained how the company was started in the Valley 11 years ago and has become the world’s largest computer domain management company, with 6 million customers. Hosting websites is another part of their business and they have taken a lead role in global internet security. One event that brought the Company national exposure, and significant sales increases, was an advertisement run during the 2005 Super Bowl.

Go Daddy.com has become like a defacto Information Technology department for some small companies. Mr. Zimmerman proudly pointed out that Go Daddy has 2,000 employees and that there is no outsourcing of jobs. He mentioned that the founder, Bob Parsons, has always strived to be a good corporate citizen, supporting legislation to tighten laws prohibiting internet child pornography and rouge on line pharmacies.

Our speaker concluded by indicating Go Daddy is strongly committed to keeping the majority of their company’s operations here in the Valley. During the past year, the company has contributed over $1 million to charitable organizations, many involving youth services and juvenile medical research.

Next Week – Next week’s program will be Bruce Merrill, with a timely topic of the 2008 election.

Many thanks to reporter Howard Dicke and photographer Alan Haugner for making this issue of the Sundial a reality.
